Faith Transformations, Transitions, or Crises

Finding Clarity and Peace Amidst Faith Crisis and Spiritual Evolution

A faith transition can feel as though the ground beneath you is shifting, leaving you untethered in a landscape that suddenly feels unfamiliar and overwhelming. It is a profound disorientation to find yourself drifting from the family and community you have been part of your whole life, navigating a new sense of isolation in a space that once felt like home

Whether you've encountered disturbing historical or doctrinal information about your faith, found that your strong spiritual feelings have unexpectedly fled, or are deeply concerned about the future of your marriage and family as your faith shifts, you are not alone. These experiences can feel like losing the very ground beneath your feet.

The Challenge: A Crisis of Certainty

A faith crisis is often a crisis of certainty, where the old answers no longer hold meaning. The challenge is compounded by the fact that your religious community may not offer a safe space to process doubt or confusion. This tension forces a difficult internal dialogue: What does my life and family look like now? Do I have to choose between identity and belonging?

Our Path Forward: Trusting Your Inner Compass

In our work together, we create a non-judgmental space to explore the full spectrum of options available to you, helping you read and speak the language of your inner self to guide your next step.

We work to validate your feelings and explore paths such as:

  • Reinterpreting Meaning: Exploring broader, more expansive ways of interpreting doctrine, history, and ritual to see if a meaningful connection can be reclaimed.

  • Embracing the Unknown: Accepting that it is okay to struggle and wait for answers, while still finding joy in the present moment.

  • Taking a Pause: Giving yourself permission to stand back and take a break from engagement to assess how it truly feels.

  • Exploring Alternatives: Patiently considering the pull toward other spiritual practices or different faith communities.

My unique personal experiences help me both be faith affirming and understanding (you don't have to worry about your therapist being biased and actively pushing you to or away from a faith that you love). Therapy is a safe space for clients to be honest in a judgement free space to make the decisions they feel they are being drawn to whether that is remaining within your faith of origin or moving towards another path. My role is to help you learn to trust the emotional cues your body is giving you, recognizing them as guidance from your higher power. You will learn to hold space for your own doubts and anxieties while cultivating a profound trust in yourself to discern your true, most peaceful path forward.
